My SFO Airport Hotel is a Friendly, Welcome Sight
Not sure if I mentioned that I was able to find a place to stay near the SFO Airport. Hotel seems very nice, clean, and the folks behind the desk were very hospitable considering the lateness of my hour of arrival.
Just seeing someone smile when they know I am coming for an interaction with them is a nice change of pace. Traveling through American airports is not the carefree journey it was when I first started doing this.
I’m sure we travelers are just as much to blame. Well, me anyways. I’ll do what I can not to have to interact with the personnel at the airports. Rarely if ever do I check in baggage. Not only do most of the airlines charge you more money for the luxury of handling your bag (noted exception is Southwest Airlines, of course), you also have to hand it over to someone. Whether that is the guy at the curb or the ticketing agent, they rarely seem like they want to see or deal with you (well, the skycap wants the tip you’re expected to give him, so he has a smile on his face
).
So, I don’t if at all possible. I do the electronic checking in and print out my tickets before I get to the airport. Sometimes during the traveling, when I’m away from a printer, I’ll be forced to wait in line for the kiosks. That tends to be okay, except when the roving agent insists on “helping” me get through the check-in process.
ARGH!!
I get they just want to move me along like cattle, but still! So, by the time I’ve reached my temporary destination, like my hotel stay in SF tonight, when I am greeted with what seemed like a genuine caring for my being there, doing business with them, it makes all the difference.
Drifting off to sleep now. What was your most memorable travel professional interaction? I may have to write a comedy book on them if I can collect enough interesting anecdotes!
Till next time…
