Why I Wait a Couple of Days After the Holiday to Travel
How were your Thanksgiving holidays? Hopefully nothing as dramatic as having long lost relatives come to visit and then witness the utter destruction of that relationship over some apparent misconceptions and an unwillingness to communicate. I love family. I do, as I’m sure you do as well.
But when egos are unleashed it can sometimes get a bit strange to be around all of them. Maybe that’s why I actually enjoy all the travel that envelopes my job. Being in fresh places all the time just seems to keep my spirits up. Plus I really like meeting new people.
And collecting match books. Really! I must have nearly 1,000 packs of matches at this point. I try to restrain myself, but I come from a long line of collectors. There’s that family thing again!
Oh, I promised to let you know why I try and travel 2 days after the end of a major holiday. It occurred to me during my last stay at the Phoenix Airport Hotel. Reflecting on a lot of the travel I’ve done over my career, I wondered why I tended to fly out a few days past a holiday period. Thinking about this deeper I realized that compared to holiday travel days, the overall traffic flow was obviously greatly reduced.
And compared to normal business travel time, again, the total number of travelers “seemed” much less to me. Without any real data or stats to back this up, I only have my hunch to go on. But it works for me.
So, if you have the option (luxury?) of being able to take another day before you leave or return from holiday travel, I say TAKE IT!
Do you have any super secret travel tips to share with me? I’ll take any that I can get! Till next time…

Not super secret but it helps. I’ve found if you have to drive yourself to the airport, off airport parking is great because you can book a spot a head of time and not have to worry about finding parking. I like Park N Fly. http://www.pnf.com Just one more way to simplify the trip.
Right on, J King. Someone at an office meeting mentioned them to me a while back, but I of course failed to follow up. Will definitely do so this time. Thanks for the tip!
