Missed the Houston Astros By “That Much” ;)

Well, phoey! I was really hoping to be able to catch more live baseball this summer. So far, my trip to San Diego was a single day off from catching the Padres at home.

Now I’m in Houston, Texas, home of the Astros and they are in the middle of a 10 game road trip! ARGH!

Well, fortunately for me, there were a ton of Houston hotel deals which has allowed me to make some extra room in my travel budget to find some cool stuff to do when the work day is done.

I’m hoping to find some real Texas BBQ and be able to chow down on some authentic south Texas cuisine. At least I think they call their food cuisine down in these parts. The last thing I want to do is offend anyone’s culinary sensibilities in these here parts! ;)

After a bit of quick online research I can already tell I’m in for some competition. Texans take their BBQ quite seriously. Several of the review sites I’ve been reading are chock full of folks that take the time to really write detailed reviews of restaurants that specialize in all things barbecue.

In fact, I was just on one site learning about Burns Bar BQ and was mildly amused to read about competitors leaving negative reviews just to try and sway folks into coming to their place. Wow, now that’s pretty hard core!

But I figure if the food is good, folks are going to come in and come back time and again. These review sites are really most beneficial to business traveling folks like myself. We’re not necessarily going to get all the normal local word of mouth that people living in the city might get. I just try to take anything overtly negative written about a restaurant with a grain of salt (and pepper :p )

Anyway, I’ll let you know how my dining experience goes. Have yourselves a yummy weekend, “ya’ll”!
